Butterwick Hospice Care – Referral Process
In Patient Unit
In Stockton we offer In-Patient Unit care (IPU) in our 10 bedded facility. Providing care for people with life limiting illnesses who have complex health care needs and who require assessment and management by the Hospice Multi-disciplinary team.
Our team aim to control pain and relieve complex symptoms as well as providing psychological support for patients and their families at this very difficult time.

Hospice At Home
Across Durham Dales and Sedgefield areas Butterwick Hospice Care offers a Palliative Home Care service to provide care and support in patients’ own homes day or night. The team supports patients who choose to remain at home during the palliative stage of their illness.

Day Care
Butterwick Day Services are provided across our Stockton site and our Bishop Auckland site as well as outreach centres in Sedgefield, Stanhope and Barnard Castle. To decide which service meets your patient’s needs you may like to view the pages on this site about Day Services.

Family Support
Our Family Support Team understands the emotional, practical and relationship challenges a terminal or life limiting illness can create for individuals and their loved ones. We offer a tailored approach to support each individuals’ particular needs and circumstances.
We take referrals for our family support services either through a medical professional or through self-referral.
Children’s Unit
In Stockton we have a 6 bedded facility, to allow us to care for babies, children and young adults with life limiting illnesses who have complex health care needs. Our team is comprised of Registered Sick Children’s Nurses (RSCNs), Registered Learning Disability Nurses (RNLD’s) nursery nurses, health care assistants and trained volunteers.
