Wallis Waffle April 2018

I have been in the not for profit sector all my working life and one thing that continues to surprise me is how generous individuals are within these types of organisations. Whether it’s due to the fact that we all experience the same pressures, trying to do too much with barely enough?  Or we are united as optimists that believe we can make the world a better place for people, animals or the planet? Or whether I have just been very lucky and met those really generous individuals? I don’t know but I do know that we often share, ideas, learnings and all our various organisations benefit from this generosity.

I joined Butterwick Hospice Care in January 2018, and my experience of the first few months within this incredible organisation has been no different. The whole of the  lovely  team  at Butterwick have been very patient explaining to the ’new girl’ how the organisation works, who to speak to about what and even held my hand through my first talk. I have at moments felt both overwhelmed and very grateful for their kindness.

Butterwick Hospice Care has an incredible generous team of volunteers without who we couldn’t possible manage to run the organisation. Currently we have over 500 volunteers, doing over 600 roles, which equates to over 6,500 hours a month. It is simply awe inspiring to me that we are so fortunate to have so many people who are so generous with their time. The amount of time people choose to give is entirely dependent on how much time they can spare us, we are always grateful for any time people can support us.  We are always looking for more volunteers, as this allows us to work with more people who need our support. Currently we have vacancies within our retail outlets, our fundraising teams, in our coffee shop and within our complimentary therapy team.  If you feel you have some time you could volunteer and want to be a part of a generous group of people who believe every moment counts do get in touch.

The generous support we receive in all forms from our local community supports the work of Butterwick Hospice Care, we can only continue to provide our services free of charge due to the generosity of our local community. Thank you to everyone who supports this vital work.
