Butterwick Hospice Care Warehouse Assistants make a real difference to supporting the work of the hospice. We are looking for an experienced driver to support our Retail Shops. The successful candidate will have a full clean driving license, be comfortable working as part of a team, enjoy interacting with members of the public and thrive in a busy fast paced environment.

Working alongside our newly formed commercial retail management team, our Warehouse Assistants work within an empowering environment, represent the hospice within the community and ensure our goods are delivered and collected promptly and courteously.  You will have high standards, a strong drive to achieve and ideally have an awareness of Antiques.

We are looking for the right candidate who is comfortable driving, enjoys the challenges of working in a charitable retail environment and who wants to help take our retail offer to the next level.

Job Purpose
All posts, whether providing or supporting the provision of our services, allow our mission and values to be upheld.

The purpose of this post is to ensure the effective, efficient and courteous collection and delivery of goods to all Retail Units from donors and from the Retail Warehouse, and to ensure the roadworthiness of the delivery vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

  • In liaison with the eCommerce Manager, to ensure prompt and courteous collection and delivery of donated goods and the delivery of stock to all Retail Shops, by the agreement of a work-plan on a regular basis.
  • To assist and co-operate with Shop Managers, or the Lead Volunteer in his/her absence, to ensure collections and deliveries to the Retail Shops are completed promptly, and also ensure that the Driver’s log is completed on a daily.
  • To assist the Retail Area Manager to control a smart and efficient warehouse depot and other storage units for the distribution of clothes to the charity shops.
  • To take responsibility for the day to day running of Hospice Retail vehicles ensuring vehicles problems, regular maintenance, and renewal of M.O.T certificates and insurance discs are brought to the attention of the eCommerce Manager. Any accidental damage, traffic offences or points added to the postholder’s Driving Licence must be advised immediately to the Retail Manager.
  • To be an ambassador for the Hospice by promoting and encouraging support for the work of Butterwick Hospice. Maintaining courteous relationships with donors and customers and to answer the telephone in a competent manner and have a sympathetic attitude towards bereaved families.
  • To comply with Environmental Health and Fire Regulations within the warehouse, other storage areas and at the Retail Shops.

Responsibilities of All Staff

To be aware of all Hospice and Retail policies and procedures relevant to the role, both existing and as they are reviewed. To carry out duties and responsibilities in compliance with Hospice and Retail policies and procedures, current legislation and codes of conduct as applicable with an awareness of personal limitations.

To be aware of the working practices of any volunteers assisting with the daily workload, feeding back any concerns to the Voluntary Services Manager so that the welfare of the volunteer is protected at all times.

To undertake the requirements of the role with an awareness of responsibilities under Health & Safety regulations.

To maintain good public relations and promote the Hospice philosophy of care in the wider community.

To provide support in the form of training/mentoring to other team members as appropriate.

To identify Training and Development opportunities, in conjunction with your manager and education co-ordinator and to take responsibility for ensuring mandatory training updates are completed within timescales. To participate in personal training as may be necessary to meet the duties and responsibilities of the post.

To undertake such other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the importance and nature of the post.
