Salary: Associate Specialist Scale (point depending on experience)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dedicated medical and nursing team, providing holistic palliative and supportive care to patients within Stockton, Thornaby and Billingham. The post is ideal for those who are seeking experience in palliative care within a hospice environment.

The successful applicant will provide medical care for patients accessing our adult services which consist of an in-patient unit and day care facility. The Senior Hospice Physician will also provide medical support as and when required on a primary care basis to our children’s hospice adjacent to the adult hospice. (Duties in the children’s hospice would be limited to match the appointee’s experience.)The Senior Hospice Physician will give direction and support to the Hospice Physician and doctors participating in the out of hours on call rota. Telephone advice/support is also provided to GPs and specialist teams within the community. Consultant Palliative Care Physicians provide sessional support to the team.

A dynamic clinical strategy is in place which aims to meet the future challenges of palliative, supportive and end-of-life care and therefore an interest and commitment in supporting Registered nurses undertaking extended skills e.g. non-medical prescribing and clinical examination skills is required.

We are therefore looking for an enthusiastic person with good communication skills and willing to work as part of a team.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo regular appraisal within the Hospice policy.

Current registration with the GMC and three years postgraduate experience is required.

There is also an on call commitment. (This is non-residential.) Within the weekend on call rota there is a requirement to visit the Hospice to review the patients. (Extra salary paid in relation to on call rota)
