Butterwick Hospice Wills Month
Wills Month
During the months of February and September Butterwick Hospice Care will be focusing on the ‘make a Will’ campaign to encourage all to make a will or to update any out of date wills which are no longer suitable for purpose. Thousands of people die every year in the UK without making a will which can have implications on what happens with both estates and personal possessions.
One of the most common issues is that unmarried partners or those who have not registered in a civil partnership cannot inherit from each other unless there is a will in place that states otherwise. To add to this, if there are no surviving relatives who can inherit under the rules of intestacy, the estate passes to the Crown. Therefore, this means that the inheritance left from the deceased will go to the government rather than to a loved one or to a specific charity which is significant in the individual’s life.
Butterwick Hospice Care work alongside a number of participating solicitors to enable individuals to decide where and who their inheritance to left to. Please get in contact if you need to establish a Will or to update your current out of date will.
To participate in Butterwicks ‘make a will’ month this please get in touch on 01642 628930 or 01388 603003 and we will put you in contact with participating solicitors.
