Miss GB UK 2017 Takes Off!
Tue 14th Feb 2017
Following the success of last year’s competition to find the most beautiful and inspiring young women in our region, Butterwick Hospice are proud to be co-organising Miss North East GB 2017 and Sunday 12th February saw the start of the selection process with casting events held at Hardwick Hall Hotel in Sedgefield and Prohibition Cabaret Bar in Gateshead.
We appealed for women aged 18 – 27 who could reflect the talented and beautiful women of the North East to apply to become one of four representatives from the area at this year’s Miss Great Britain finals.
To get to the final the contestants must first compete in the regional heats to become crowned either, Miss Newcastle GB, Miss Sunderland GB, Miss Durham GB or Miss Teesside GB. Entry into each title is governed by where the contestant lives.
We were happy to find that many young women had the confidence and belief in their own abilities to apply. Our contestants will now begin the challenge of fundraising for their chosen charity. Points are awarded to each person for the total amount raised. These fundraising points are added to their beauty pageant totals at the regional catwalk finals held during June.
Contestants in the Miss Durham and Miss Teesside categories will be taking part in their regional final at Hardwick Hall Hotel on 15th June 2017. They are raising money for Butterwick Hospice Care. Taylor Hamilton, Miss Durham GB 2016 said: “It’s been amazing, working with the charity, helping raise tons of money, it’s fabulous. I would tell anyone to enter.”
The competition is jointly managed and co-hosted by Simon Robertson of Headline Models who offers the winners of the regional heats a full year contract with his modelling agency. The regional winners go on to take part in a number of exciting events and experience the lime light at a number of high profile venues. These take place during the run up to and following the Miss Great Britain finals which they all compete in with finalists from across Great Britain.
Coral Patrick, Miss Newcastle GB 2016 said: “The whole experience has just boosted my confidence by about 1000%. I feel like I could take on anything now. It’s been an amazing experience.”
We will be supporting the contestants raising funds for Butterwick Hospice and watching their achievement with interest and enthusiasm.
