The Care Team

The care team involved in each child's stay at the hospice is made up of a range of professionals and trained volunteers who work in partnership with the child's parents or carers.

The Care Team is led by the Director of Clinical Services assisted by the Children's Clinical Lead.

Within the Team are qualified and experienced sick children's Water games in Butterwick Housenurses, nursery nurses and health care assistants. They are assisted by the Family Support Team including our Social Worker, Child and Adult Counsellor, Chaplain, Complementary Therapists, Physiotherapist, Children's Hospice secretary and trained volunteers. These people work in partnership with the family or carers of each child and between them make up the 'care team' for the children who spend time at Butterwick House. A key worker is assigned to each family who will keep in regular contact in between stays.

Other members of the Children's Hospice care team include our Chef and kitchen staff who prepare all the meals and snacks and our housekeeping staff who keep everything clean and tidy.

Multi-sensory room in Butterwick HouseThe atmosphere in the children's unit is very welcoming and relaxed. The Care Team keep in touch with families via the telephone in between visits to keep them up to date with any developments in the child's health.

Some members of the Care Team are trained in aromatherapy massage and music therapy. Story time in the multi-sensory room or trips out in the sunshine coach are also popular pastimes for children staying at the Hospice.
