Following a year’s worth of fundraising, colleagues at Sainsbury’s Bishop Auckland have managed to raise £5,203.18 for the Butterwick Hospice Care, Bishop Auckland. On Friday 11th May at 11am at Sainsbury’s Bishop Auckland, colleagues will be presenting Julie Nisbet from Butterwick Hospice Care with a cheque to celebrate the success of their year’s partnership.
Back in May last year, Sainsbury’s Bishop Auckland customers voted for the Butterwick Hospice to be considered to receive a year’s worth of support from the store, situated in St Helen Auckland. The charity, which helps improve the quality of life of those suffering from life limiting illnesses and provides care and support to them and their families, was announced as the store’s new Local Charity Partner last June.
During the year, the charity, situated on St Helen Auckland Industrial estate, was supported by store colleagues through a number of fundraising activities. Highlights included celebration fund raising event on the 1st year anniversary of the store opening with guess the weight of the birthday cake, a cake stall and book stall, which took place in October 2011 and raised £686.68 and bag packing and a band playing Christmas music in store, which took place in December 2011 and raised £1,201.
Between 9th and 23rd May, customers will be invited to vote for another local charity to receive a year’s worth of fundraising and awareness support from Sainsbury’s Bishop Auckland. The store will unveil the winning charity in June. The store will though continue to build on it’s relationship with the Butterwick Hospice Care Bishop Auckland.
Julie Nisbet, a fundraiser from the Butterwick Hospice said: “We’re really grateful for the fantastic efforts of the colleagues and customers at Sainsbury’s Bishop Auckland. They have really helped to raise the profile of our charity in Bishop Auckland. We’d like to thank every customer who’s helped contribute to this fantastic total”.
The money donated to Butterwick Hospice Care will now be used to continue providing a variety of services to patients, including day care, homecare, counselling services, complimentary therapies and support groups. This money and support plays an important part in ensuring the continuation of the work of the Butterwick Hospice.
Store Manager Tom Phillipson added: “From volunteering to the many fundraising activities that we’ve held, our customers have been driving force in making our fundraising efforts for Butterwick Hospice Care. The money we’ve raised is really going to help a local charity that’s close to many people’s hearts in Bishop Auckland.”
