Butterwick Shops Appeal for Goods

Butterwick Hospice Care Retail Manager, Lilian Harkness, today appealed for people to donate goods to the Butterwick Hospice charity shops as the credit crunch appears to be affecting the amount of goods the Charity is receiving as donations.

Donations to the shops are thought to be at their lowest ever level, Lilian said: “This is a time of financial stress and uncertainty for many people so instead of donating as normal, people seem to be hanging on to what they have. That is causing an unusual problem for the Hospices’ 15 shops in that we are struggling to fill our rails and shelves.

“This is a situation that we can fully appreciate in the current climate but we are appealing to people to donate what they can. The Butterwick shops play a vital part in raising the funds needed to maintain the Hospice services.”

Butterwick’s high street shops normally raise in excess of £150,000 a year from the items donated by local people. Donating to the charity is a fantastic way of both helping the Hospices and recycling things you no longer want.

Lilian continued: “There are a few things we can’t recycle as they cost the Charity money to have taken away such as TVs, Microwaves and Fridges.

“We are grateful for donations of good quality clothing, books, bric a brac, furniture, small electrical goods, jewellery and unbroken toys. Donations can be dropped off at any Butterwick shop or at the warehouse at Durham Lane Industrial Estate in Eaglescliffe or larger items or loads can be collected by calling the Butterwick warehouse to arrange this on 01642 788201.”

Ends.
