There are several exciting courses and an opportunity to try out a wide variety of therapies at the Seven Wellbeing Centre Complementary Therapies Fair at our Bishop Auckland Hospice on Sunday 27th May coming up this month.
On Saturday 19th May we have an Introduction to Nutrician and Health course running at Butterwick Hospice in Stockton. Tutor, Caroline Innes, has a first class honours degree in Nutrician and Health Sciences and has been a complementary practioner since 1999.
This course offers you a deeper understanding about how diet affects your health, and how our relationship with food affects our wellbeing. During this one day course you can:
- Learn about the three main food groups and their role in a healthy diet.
- Examine the relationship between food and health and what can be achieved through just small changes in diet.
- Steps to take to put your learning into practice.

On Saturday and Sunday, 26th & 27th May Seven Wellbeing Centre is holding the next introductory course in Indian Head Massage. This course content is suitable both for people with no complimentary therapies training who are interested in the benefits this therapy provides and also is useful for nursing or medical professionals looking to add to their CPD points.
Course tutor, Anne Whiteford, successfully trained as an aromatherapist in 1996, and has since been involved with a number of initiatives including providing clincial sessions within her own practice, being complementary therapies advisor for Cleveland Radio and as a registered pricipal tutor for both ITEC and IFPA.
Indian Head Massage is a traditional therapy practiced by Indian families to help relieve stress and tension. The aim is to use particular massage techniques on the head, neck and shoulders to release the stress and tension that builds up in the muscles and joints.
This course has a mainly practical content. You will learn about:
- The history of IHM
- Contraindications of IHM
- Physical and psychological benefits
- Massage routines
- Special pressure points
- Adapting the treatment to the individual
- Aftercare advice

Also on Sunday 27th May Seven Wellbeing Centre is holding its first complementary therapies fair at our Bishop Auckland hospice between 11am and 3pm.
This is your opportunity to try out a wide range of complementary therapies in mini sessions and to chat to practioners about which therapy might be good for you.
There will be a variety of stalls and stands, entrance is free and refreshments will be available in the dining room.
