Sponsorship Help for the Sedgefield Walk

The Butterwick Mid Night Walks 2009 are fundraising events, designed to raise money to fund our vital services. We do this by asking each walker to raise sponsorships – as much as they possible can, because every penny counts!

butterwick logoEach year for the past twenty five, Butterwick has provided loving care to local people with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Many of you will know people who have been helped by the Butterwick. You may even have personal experience of the Hospices.

Butterwick have two Adult Hospices, one in Bishop Auckland and one in Stockton, and a Children’s Hospice, in addition to community support groups, out-of-hours services, day hospices in local hospitals and bereavement and family support.

You can choose to walk in support of one particular Hospice or request that we use the money wherever it is most needed.

walkers last yearWe provide our services completely free of charge, but it costs us some £3.65 million pounds to maintain our services each year, and we get very little government support.

The majority of our donations come from local people doing events just like the Mid Night Walks. Without the generosity of such wonderful people our services simply couldn’t survive.

Our supporters are special people who selflessly raise money for us to ensure that we can continue to provide our special brand of care to people when they need us most. Every time – and to the highest standard.

We implore you to go out and raise as much sponsorship as you possible can you, in doing so you become part of the Butterwick Story that is all about people helping people.

Here are some helpful hints to help you in your hunt for sponsorship

  • First things first, start early! The sooner you begin to collect your sponsorship, the more people you will be able to ask!
  • Ask people who are most likely to donate the most first – they will set a trend of high giving which other people will hopefully continue
  • Ask everybody you know – of course ask all your friends and family, but don’t forget all your colleagues at work, the people down the pub, the guys you know at bingo/ yoga class/ wherever! Take your sponsorship form with you if you think you are going to meet a number of people who could sponsor you.
  • Make sure everybody Gift Aids their donation – all you need to do it get them to tick the Gift Aid box, and the donation will be worth 25p more – that’s 25% extra, for nothing! All you have to do is tick the box!
  • See if your employer has a matched funding scheme – some companies will match the amount raised by its employees for charity.
  • Consider online fundraising – go to www.justgiving.com to find out more. Miles easier than a paper-based form and people can donate online with their credit cards… easy!
  • You could even consider holding a fundraising event to help increase your total – it could be something as simple as a raffle at work or a coffee morning with your friends.
