Working with Schools

We have a long and proud history of working closely with a wide range of schools from across the North East.

teacher and classThe partnerships we form with schools help them to develop their pupils in a wide range of ways and provide a number of extracurricular activities that broaden the school’s calendar.

The types of activities we do with schools depends on the establishment; we will determine your aims, share with you our ideas and agree a set of activities that most suit your school’s needs.

Our activities fall into four broad groups: Events, Sporting, Creative Design and Special Initiatives (see the Apprentice). We can, of course, accommodate any ideas or plans the school may have.

All our schemes centre around skills development and learning, as well as having fun. With each scheme we have supporting resources to help the learning process and we’ll support the activities as is appropriate to maximise the experience.

Doing a charity-focused activity adds greater interest and helps to motivate the pupils, bringing the best out of them.

Event-based activities are when we work with pupils to help them to use their skills to put on a particular event - from a small stall to a musical concert.

We have many sporting activities, from joining our September Swimathon to organising their own sports tournament.

We work with pupils in creative design, for example some pupils have designed Butterwick pin badges etc or used their skills to help advertise/ promote activities.

We have proudly launched the Butterwick Schools Apprentice. The idea is very simple - we give your team £50 and challenge you through your innovation and enterprise to triple it or more, all in aid of a good cause.

this is a team building picture with people with joined hands"The Butterwick Apprentice is an inspired scheme that links raising funds for the Hospice with learning and skills enrichment for local students.

Our Sixth Form students are planning their chosen event at the moment and are excited at the prospect of meeting the challenge of tripling their initial funds... at least!"

The proceeds from the scheme will be donated to the Children's Hospice, allowing children to help other children from the local community. This is a challenge that all local schools can join.

The only requirements are that your team are enthusiastic and committed enough to bring energy and life to the scheme, and in doing so supporting the valuable work of the Hospice.

The scheme is widely adaptable to the school curriculum, meaning you can deliver it during school classes. Team sizes can vary from a small set of friends to a whole class - it's that flexible.

The scheme is a perfect opportunity for school children to learn about business, economics and entrepreneurialism. The children will develop key skills such as communication, team working and innovation in a real-life setting.

Sadaf Dar, Year 12 student, said "We're enjoying the challenge so far, we're planning our event at the moment, and we're also looking forward to raising as much money as possible for Butterwick".

The scheme can be run as an end-of-term activity, an after-school club or during a certain timetabled lesson. The Butterwick team will be on hand to support teams as much as is necessary.
